A JustGiving crowdfunding page was set up to raise enough money for a much-needed heating system for the Pen-y-Pound Stadium in Abergavenny
So far, the appeal has raised nearly half of its target through fundraisers and collections over the past month
Writing on the JustGiving page, organiser Jeffrey Parry said, “The central heating system is out dated and not fit for purpose.”
He continued, “Our members are cold, our retired members of U3A will soon have to vacate the building, should the heating system not be replaced and our children footballers and families can’t take full advantage of the club house, due to the inept heating system, which just doesn’t heat the building.”
Adding, “The club is regularly used by the 150 plus retired members of the U3A, two to three times a week. The football section has 50 senior members, as well as supporters. The football club have a thriving junior section, consisting of players aged 6-18 years old.”
Jeffrey explained that, “Our aim is to open the club up, to invite the community in, with the potential to start other clubs or organisations, such as a ‘table tennis’ club, ‘darts section’, ‘pool section’ as well as advertising the club for general hire at a very low cost.”
At the time of writing, the JustGiving page had reached £1,725 of its £4,000 target.
