Crickhowell RFC - 10

Bettws RFC - 13

CRICKHOWELL missed their chances in a closely contested top-of-the-table clash with Bettws RFC. With several players missing due to injuries and prior commitments, Crick were grateful for some players on permit who stepped into assist.

Crick took an early lead after outside-half Tom Keane’s kick ahead took the play upfield and he coolly slotted over a penalty awarded after a deliberate knock-on. It was not long before an offside penalty against Crick saw Bettws draw level.

With their powerful scrummaging causing problems for the home side, it was forward power that led to the visitors stretching their lead with a converted try after continuous pressure in the Crick 22.

The score remained 3-10 at the break. At the resumption of play, both sides battled to score and it was Crick who finally broke the impasse after the ball was spread across the line enabling Keanu Morris to break through with Keane converting.

A determined Bettws were awarded another penalty and took full advantage to regain the lead. With their set-pieces being disrupted Crick struggled and with a missed penalty attempt and despite a last minute surge into the Bettws 22, time ran out leaving the visitors celebrating.

The match was sponsored by Lawrence Watts and the ball by Tom Harding. The next game is away to another close rival, West Mon RFC, on Saturday, October 26.
