Newport City - 3

Newport City FC (who were formerly Llanwern FC), arrived at Pen-y-Pound with a woeful playing record, having lost all four league matches they have played so far this season, shipping 22 goals in the process.

Another drubbing seemed on the cards for City as Town strolled to a two goal lead within the opening 15 minutes, courtesy of goals from Sean Feeley and Luke Lewis, but thereafter chances were few.

Normal service seemed to be resumed early in the second half when Tyla Preece headed home to put the basement boys in real difficulties, but his effort was ruled out for off-side.

However it was City who next troubled the scorer when James Perrett reduced the deficit on 50 minutes. Sensing some hope City pressed forward and Callum Smith equalised for them half way through the half, to give the score-line an improbable look.

Town looked stunned and more woe followed as Andy Coleman put City ahead with eight minutes remaining.

The game drifted to the final whistle to give the visitors their first points of the season. Town will need to improve ahead of their Welsh Cup tie at Ton Pentre on Saturday (ko 2.00pm). A supporter’s bus leaves Peny-p-Pund at 11.30.

Meanwhile Town’s development side returned home from Ely Rangers with a fine 1-3 victory under their belt with goals from Curtis Methven, Owen Vaughan and Ben Bannon.
