WITH Saturday’s match against Aberdare being cancelled due to the rain making Avenue Road unplayable, Abergavenny CC continued their pre-season preparations by welcoming Cheltenham Civil Service on Sunday.
Geraint Leach lost the toss and Aber were asked to bat. Unfortunately things didn’t quite to plan as only three batsman made into double figures, Leach himself contributing 20, his opening partner Will Glenn scoring 15 and Lewis Holley getting 19. After being 42-2, Aber collapsed to 81 all out in the 33rd over.
Cheltenham showed intent from ball one of their innings, racing along at over six an over. Five bowlers were used but only Will Glenn was able to pick up a wicket which was well caught by Matthew Knight. Cheltenham hit the winning runs in the 14th over.
This weekend Swansea and Brockhampton are the visitors in the last round of friendly fixtures, with senior training continuing every Tuesday evening from 6pm.
The fixtures have now been released for the Abergavenny CC junior teams. The Under 11s first match in the league is against Croesyceiliog on Wednesday May 4 and have drawn Sudbrook in the first round of the shield. The Under 13s will play Chepstow on Thursday May 5 in their first league match and will also play the same opposition in the shield. The Under 15s start their campaign on Friday May 6 by welcoming Blackwood and then face Pontymister in their first round shield match. Junior training is every Friday at the ground from 6pm.
