Abergavenny Women - 0
Swansea City Ladies - 1
WHEN Abergavenny Women met Swansea City Ladies on the opening day of the season, they served up a nine goal thriller between them. The rematch between the two top teams in the league didn’t have as many goals but was just as tense.
After only five minutes the visitors took the lead when a cross from the left found striker Jodie Passmore in the six yard box and she finished neatly.
Another feast of goals looked on the menu but alas Swansea’s early strike proved to be the match winner.
With their tails up the visitors had much the better of the first half, but a golden opportunity at the other end for the league’s top goal scorer Lyndsey Davies went begging as the half-time break loomed.
With the Christmas number one spot up for grabs Abergavenny came out fighting in the second half and saw much more of the ball, creating several decent chances.
It was Swansea however who had the best chance to wrap up the points but missed a penalty when Grace Thomas-Parr saved a tame effort.
Abergavenny went closest on 80 minutes, when a corner from Kate Jeremiah was headed toward goal, but was cleared off the line.
Overall it was superb advert for the female game in Wales.
