Port Talbot Town Ladies - 0
Abergavenny Women - 3
It was back to premier league action this weekend and a tough away game at Port Talbot for the Abergavenny Women.
A couple of changes for Abergavenny saw their Wales U19 keeper Grace Thomas Parr and new recruit from Hereford, Laura Davies, making their first starts for the club.
The first half saw Abergavenny dominate possession but unable to break down a side determined to get numbers behind the ball and frustrate.
Several chances came and went, but defensively Aber were sound with Grace Thomas Parr looking assured with safe hands from a couple of dangerous Port Talbot corners.
Abergavenny came out flying in the second half and the midfield took total control with Ceri Hudson and Laura Davies marshalling their troops with wide players Kate Jeremiah and Lauren Boyd a source of many of an attack.
With the movement and threat of strikers Amy Thrupp and Lyndsey Davies, it was surely only a matter of time before the 0-0 stalemate was broken.
So it proved, as on the hour mark a pin-point Boyd corner was met with perfection by Laura Davies who thundered a header home to give her side a deserved lead.
A fine save from Thomas Parr helped preserve the lead before the game was settled on 70 minutes thanks to a trademark Lyndsey Davies strike helping maintain her superb record of scoring in all seven matches this season.
The third came with 10 minutes remaining and no one deserved it more than player of the match Amy Thrupp who teased the Port Talbot defender in the area before cutting back on her weaker left peg to hammer home from eight yards out.
This result keeps the Abergavenny Women sitting proudly on top of The Welsh Premier League.
It’s back to cup action next week as Rhyl Ladies come to town in round one of the league cup.
