Garden Village - 1

THE Town suffered an early set-back at Gorseinon, when an ill-judged back pass forced Aber’s ‘keeper, Tom Indge to make a rash tackle in the box, and the hosts Scott Smith made no mistake from the spot to take the lead after 10 minutes.

Town forced a string of corners in quick succession, forcing James Kirkwood to twice punch the ball to safety but at the other end Town had to show all of their defensive qualities to make sure they did not fall further behind, even calling on striker Dan Hartland to clear off the line, and making other vital clearances.

Whatever was said in the dressing room at half time seemed to do the trick, as Town looked a side transformed in the second half.

From the off Town forced a series of free kicks which Richard Jeremiah expertly delivered in into the box, and Ross Davies was unlucky when getting on to the end of one, only to see his effort skim the crossbar.

Dan Hartland who was going to have his best game yet in Town colours was causing ‘The Village’ all sorts of problems often looking to take the ball to the bye-line before whipping in a cross. Hartland got his reward for his efforts seven minutes into the half but this time it was through his direct play straight down the middle, and when Kirkwood advanced to tackle him, Hartland proved the strongest and as the ball ran free in front of him, he had the easiest of tasks in bringing his side level. He almost increased his lead in the next minute as a rampant Town took control, but fired wide.

On the other wing Rhys Tandy, as ever, was putting in a shift, and his mazy runs had the home side in all sorts of bother. Half way through the half, when he burst into the box he was taken out, and up stepped Hartland to blast home from the spot as Town completed a remarkable turnaround.

There was still some fight left in Garden Village, and Tom Indge had to show strong hands to a blistering shot late on, but it was Town who prevailed making the long journey home with three points in the bag.

Town are next in action on Friday night at Croesyceiliog in a 7.30pm kick off.

On the playing front, Town are set to enjoy their best ever season, and are also making good progress off the pitch. Last week saw them install the first batch of 120 seats at Pen-y-Pound Stadium with the prospect of another 130 seats to be added soon.

Meanwhile Town’s reserve side suffered a 7-1 battering at the hands of Dinas Powys with player/manager Ross Melrose grabbing Town’s consolation.

Town’s Youth side were without a fixture last Saturday.
