AFC Porth - 2

ABERGAVENNY Town began the New Year with a bang as they put Porth to the sword in a five-goal thriller.

Town, who welcomed back fit-again Sean Feeley and Dane Griffiths started brightly, but it was second in the division, Porth who took an early lead after eight minutes with virtually their first attack when Ben Ah-mun found himself in acres of space in the box, and made no mistake in slotting home.

After 22 minutes play was suspended when an AFC Porth player suffered an epileptic fit. Play resumed after a 35 minute break, and Town’s Lewis Hitchcock, making his home debut, equalised as the half hour approached.

In the second half, Porth got into their stride and it was no surprise when they regained the lead through Tyrone Topper.

Jordan Harford brought Town level with 15 minutes remaining, and then Porth were denied a glorious chance to edge ahead with a penalty, when Town’s ‘keeper Tom Indge made a fine save. At the other end Luke Lewis fired home to give Town the lead for the first time in the game, and in what time remained Town could have added two more, but accepted a very welcome three points.

Town are away next Saturday in the quarter final of the League cup and travel to Llanelli Town (2.00pm). A supporter’s bus leaves Pen-y-Pound at 11am.

There is Friday night football this coming Friday the 13th at Pen-y-Pound, as Town‘s reserve side entertain Dinas Powys FC. Kick-off is 7.45pm and admission is free.
