Abergavenny Women - 2

Port Talbot Town Ladies - 0

THE Abergavenny Ladies impressed with a double header of home games on Sunday which saw both U16s and the senior team come away with the goods.

The youngsters were up first looking to hold onto top spot in the league, and the result never looked in doubt as they dominated in all areas against their Cardiff rivals.

A goal in each half from scoring sensation 14-year-old Eliza Atkins saw her bag an impressive brace, sealed with a 30 yard overhead volley into the top corner.

It was Premier League action next up with Port Talbot Town Ladies the visitors to Pen-y-Pound Stadium.

A tight and tense first-half saw both teams cancel one another out, though Abergavenny were creating the better opportunities.

With third in the league Aber against third from bottom Port Talbot, it was a crucial game for both teams and the first goal was going to be vital.

It remained stalemate at the break but Abergavenny came out in the second-half with the strong wind behind them and dominated for long periods.

Chances came and chances went, as frustration set in. However, like the proverbial bus, two goals turned up nearly at once.

With 15 minutes left on the clock, goal machine Lyndsey Davies latched onto a through ball to finish neatly, followed two minutes later by the second as Lauren Boyd poked home a left-footed strike to seal the win and end her side’s season of home fixtures on a high.
