Swansea City Ladies - 4

Abergavenny Women FC - 5

ABERGAVENNY travelled to the home of former champions Swansea City on Sunday to kick off their Premier League campaign and came away with all three points after an amazing game and a superb advert for the female game in Wales.

A dream start saw Abergavenny go 3-0 up after only 27 minutes thanks to a hat trick from striker and former Wales U.19’s international Lyndsey Davies (pictured), but anyone who had game over thoughts were very much mistaken as the Swans woke up and scored two of their own before the break to put themselves right back into the match.

Swansea City came out all guns blazing in the second half and two more goals in 10 minutes meant a remarkable turnaround in the game and Abergavenny were 3-4 behind.

Many teams would’ve folded under the pressure and disappointment of letting a three goal lead slip away but not Abergavenny as they rolled up their sleeves and dug deep.

It was Lyndsey Davies once again who finished superbly on the hour mark to level things up.

The winner came on 65 minutes, after a great run and cross down the left from summer signing Lauren Boyd, the ball fell to local girl Kate Jeremiah at the back post who finished neatly to give another twist to a fantastic game.

The final 20 minutes saw Swansea City throw everything at Abergavenny but they couldn’t breakdown a resolute defense bolstered by the return of former captain Katrina French who came on four weeks to the day after fracturing her ankle to help secure a famous victory.

Manager Richie Jeremiah was buzzing after the match and full of praise for his team who are now looking forward to their first home game at Abergavenny Town Football Club this Sunday (September 11) against Aberystwyth Town Ladies.
