Abergavenny Girls - 3
Thornhill AFC - 1
Abergavenny Town Girls Under 12s kicked off their new league competition with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Thornhill AFC.
Thornhill took the lead with a fine individual goal from their striker. Aber dug deep and soon drew level after a great run by Mia Sherrard who played a great ball into the middle for Ruby Gould to slot home.
Ruby Gould then scored her second after her strike was helped in by a Thornhill hand.
Attackers Ruby, Macey McCann and Carys Pond proceeded to test the keeper, who pulled off at least five excellent saves. Eventually Aber got their third with a great run and strike from captain Chelleter Graham-Sawyers.
The defensive duo of Cristyn Powell and Bella Wilce were again outstanding and dealt with the Thornhill threat very comfortably. Sophie Engel put in a magnificent display from midfield to nullify the threat of the Thornhill goalscorer, and keeper Katie Barker made a fantastic save at the end to avoid a tense finish.
New recruit Isabella Rudge was playing in her first football match, and slotted into the team well by putting in a hard shift and winning numerous battles in the middle.
All in all a good start for the girls.
