AFC Porth - 1
Abergavenny Town - 2
ABERGAVENNY Town were given a mighty scare away at AFC Porth last Saturday, against a side which had not earned a single point all season.
Porth went ahead after 30 minutes when Gavin Morris scored following a Connor Ray corner which was only half cleared by Town’s defence. The game rumbled on to half-time and Porth held their advantage.
In the final 45 minutes, Town improved on their woeful first-half performance and Curtis Methven put his side level on the hour mark.
Porth held out until five minutes from the end, when Sean Feeley put the Town ahead for the first time. The late strike might have saved Town’s blushes, but the result all but sees the hosts relegated.
After two away trips, Town return to Pen-y-Pound Stadium on Saturday, entertaining in-form Garden Village who are pushing hard for promotion. Kick-off is at 2.30pm.
Meanwhile Town’s reserve side, who recorded a fine 6-4 away victory over Undy Athletic in the previous mid- week, with a brace from Tom Jenkins, a hat trick from Ben Bannon, and a goal from Toby Purvis, were on the wrong end of a 6-1 battering last Saturday, going down away at Cwmbran Celtic. However they are still guaranteed a top five finish.
The reserves are without a fixture on Saturday, but entertain Undy Athletic on Tuesday evening (7.30pm).
