WITH The arrival of longer days if not Spring weather Raglan Parc Golf Club Seniors gear up for a busy season of friendly matches against other clubs in the area.
These matches are friendly but generally very competitive and appreciated by all those who take part. Even if the golf doesn't live up to expectations the get together in the bar afterwards always does.
Raglan were narrowly beaten away at Llanwern going down by three games to two. After the first three games it looked as if Raglan would record a famous victory when they managed to win two.
However Llanwern fought back in the final three games and eventually ran out winners. Winning pairs for Raglan were Brian Lewis and Jack Maidment by three and two together with Derek Watson and Neil Sansom by two and one. The halve point being earned by Captain John Duthie and Phil Hopkins.
Returning home to play against Southerndown, Raglan were comfortable winners by six matches to two. Full advantage of the home fixture was taken by Captain John Duthie and last year's Captain Stuart Bradley leading the way with a six and four victory. Other winners were Brian Jones and Jack Maidment, five and four, Ron Thomas and Paul Murphy, four and three, Gary French and Brian Williams, three and two, Gwynne Jones and Neil Sansom, four and two, and finally Phil Hopkins and Peter Perrett by four and three.
