ON Sunday, Abergavenny Ladies’ development team took to their home pitch to score a 2-0 victory against Chepstow.

There were no downcast eyes or wild celebrations, however. Though Aber does have several teams competing in league matches on weekends over the season, the aim of Sunday’s game was to experience a low-pressure match situation, focus on coaching in between each quarter, and most importantly, have some fun.

A club spokesperson explained, “Development matches are a fantastic way to improve players’ confidence. Teams are often a mix of adult beginners, club Juniors graduating to Senior hockey, people keen to dust of their stick after time away from the game, and Senior players keen to have an extra run around.

“We’re open to everyone and think hockey is a fun sport for all ages whether you want to meet new people, get more exercise and beat the winter blues, or of course, improve your hockey game. New players are always welcome.

“On Tuesday our thriving juniors section runs coaching sessions for Under 9s Girls and Boys, Under 11 and 13 Girls, Under 11 and 13 boys. Under 15 Boys and Under 15 Girls train on Thursday evenings.”

Senior training is every Thursday, Men 7 - 8.30pm and Ladies 8 - 9.30pm.
