NEARLY 40 cyclists went the extra mile braving the heat and the distance to finish Sunday's Road Time Trials Council’s National 12-Hour Cycling Championship, held largely between Abergavenny and Raglan.
Starting at Monmouthshire Livestock Market on the old Raglan-Aber road and finishing with loops on the A40 dual carriageway, the event started at 6am with a field of 55 riders setting off individually.
The opening morning circuit was almost 91 miles, taking riders through Raglan, Monmouth, Mitchel Troy, Usk and Hereford before returning to the Hardwick Roundabout.
The riders then moved onto a series of 25.79-mile circuits, completing five of these before moving onto the finishing circuit.
The finishing section consisted of a series of 15.484-mile laps on the dual carriageway, giving the riders the opportunity to continue adding to their distance right through the final stages of the 12 hours.
And Bristol's Jake Sargent of Team Bottrill Nopinz made it three wins in a row as he racked up an amazing 333 miles to top the podium by nearly 30 miles from Casper von Foisach of WattShop, the only top-20 finisher on a road bike instead of a time-trial machine.
The latter pipped Fulfil The Potential Race Team's Christopher Gibbard by just over a mile in 303.72, who was first veteran home.
Sargent's team mate Matthew Uttley was only 0.48 miles behind in fourth (302.59), while FTPRT's Henrik Persson was fifth in 295.94.
Just behind and fastest woman on the day retaining her title from 2025 was Banbury's Naomi de Pennington in 291.14 miles.
Second was Roxy Woodfield of Passion Fit in 275.02 and third just 1.05 miles back was Kimberley Barfoot-Brace of Eat Plants Not Pigs CC.
