PICTURED is young maestro Liam Davis, who has been busy chalking up a name for himself on the green baize. The seven-year-old potter with an eye for the pocket recently won his third U16 pool tournament at Abergavenny Labour club against players a lot older than himself. Yet the connoisseur of the cue's true love is snooker, and at the Red Triangle Snooker Club in Crosskeys, where Liam plays two hours each day and all through the weekend, he's tipped for great things. The club's Darren Morgan said, "Liam loves the game and his enthusiasm for it is frightening. If he could play for eight hours a day he would. I think if he keeps on the straight and narrow and he maintains his enthusiasm, we could be looking at a future world champion." Liam, whose favourite snooker player is Ronnie O' Sullivan, has a top match break of 38 and practice break of 43. Liam only started snooker after watching it on TV and asking his dad Leyton Davis if he'd take him somewhere to play a proper game. Leyton explained, "It all snowballed from there really. It seems in snooker terms Liam has it all mapped out for himself. He knows what he wants and how he's going to achieve it. We're all very proud of him." Proud mum Clair added, "Liam has achieved some much in such a short space of time and I think if he sticks at it he'll definitely be a name to watch in the snooker world."
