LAST weekend’s cricket was something of a washout.

Abergavenny First X1’s fixture away to Tondu was cancelled and the seconds had a late start away to Cardiff Gymkhana.

Aber won the toss and decided to insert their hosts. Cardiff were 56-2 off 10.2 overs when the game was abandoned. Ben Morris took two wickets.

Crickhowell were away to Builth Wells and inserted Builth who were 23-0 after six overs when the game was also abandoned.

Yet one game did survive the elements (almost) and that was Glangrwyney firsts’ fixture away to Colwall Thirds.

Glangrwyney won the toss and with no hesitation asked the home team to bat first with the uncertainty over the number of overs per side being the big unknown.

Colwall batted confidently in damp conditions from the overnight rain and made it to the drinks break without loss. On resumption, Kevin Palmer removed an opener for a stylish 52 and just as it looked like Glangrwyney were getting on top, the rain came so tea was taken early. The rain relented later. However, no further play was possible because the outfield had become waterlogged. The abandoned game and other results means Glangrwyney remain top by five points.
