Glangrwyney Cricket Club recently held their Annual Dinner at the Old Rectory Hotel, Llangattock where 40 members and friends enjoyed an evening celebrating another season of success for the club.

Chairman, Eddie Harding, welcomed principal guest Kirsty Williams AM, thanking her for her support and assistance in the upgrading of the clubs ground at Cwrt-y-Gollen.

In response she said how important it was for community clubs to flourish and provide opportunity particularly for young people when local authority provision was suffering from reducing financial resources. She praised the spirit within the club and its desire to promote grass roots involvement in sport, an important factor both in the long term health of the nation and providing social interaction.

Turning to the playing side, Eddie congratulated the teams on completing a successful season with the First XI winning Marches League Division Two and the Second XI re-establishing itself after a three year gap in Marches League Division Four. Eddie also spoke of the excellent catering provision of a number of ladies during the season and bouquets were presented to Alison Cartwright, Bev Hooper, Jacqui Charlton, Jen Morgan, Susan and Helen Devoy and Joan Howell in appreciation of their hard work.

Introducing the playing awards for the season, the Chairman noted that in both batting and bowling the club had strength in depth, with several players close behind the award winners.

The President presented the following awards,

Batting Award 1st XI – Tim Jones, 2nd XI – Dan Bowen.
