Abergavenny Cricket Club welcomed South Wales Premier League team Ynysygerwn to Avenue Road on Saturday and proceeded to storm to a stunning seven wicket win with more than eight overs remaining.

Ynysygerwn won the toss and elected to bat, but he visitors innings never really got going as they lost wickets at regular intervals.

Debutant Adam Harrison was the pick of the bowlers finishing with 3-18 off seven overs. Sam Clarke came on first change and was very economical as he took 2-18 from his eight overs. Matthew Knight, Lewis Holley and youngster Dan Bowden all chipped in with one wicket each as Ynysygerwn were bowled out for 160 in the last over of the innings.

Aber lost a wicket in the fourth over of the run chase with captain for the day William Glenn being run out for a duck. Harrison joined Morgan Bevans at the crease with both scoring at a comfortable rate. Bevans was caught and bowled for 36 but this brought the hard hitting Dan Cooke to the field. He scored 33 from from 28 balls including two sixes to take Aber in sight of victory. Harrison (69 not out) secured victory for Abergavenny.

On Sunday, Aber continued their unbeaten start to the season with a fourth successive friendly victory - this time against Penarth.

Aber captain Mike Baillon lost the toss on a good early season wicket and was asked to take the field by his oposing number.

Dan Cooke rolled back the years by taking the new ball and showed glimpses of his former glories in a tidy four over burst. Dave Clarke shard the new ball duties and bowled a disciplined line and length and was rewarded for his efforts with the first wicket of the game.

Penarth, in the shape of Erasmus and Miller had moved the score along to 73-1 inside 16 overs and a score in excess of 200 looked firmly on the cards.

However, the innings was abruptly halted by spin twins Sam Clarke (2-30) and Steve Brown (4-29) who managed to extract a little turn out of the unseasonally hard deck to reduce the Penarth innings to 121-7.

Youngsters Ben Morris (1-13) and Dylan Beaumont-Welsh (0-13) kept up the pressure on the Penarth lower-middle order with miserly spells, before Brown and skipper Baillon returned to mop up the tail.

Penarth were dismissed for 135 which represented an excellent day in the field for the Aber players.

In reply, Seasoned pro Gareth Powell opened the batting for the Beavers with new signing Lord Pipey Burkitt and the two Aber men instantly gelled in an opening partnership of 84. Powell was the first man out for a well constructed 42, which brought Jimmy Herrick to the crease. Herrick and Burkitt brought Aber 10 runs closer to their before both men fell in quick succession. At 95-3 any home jitters were rapidly laid to rest as all rounder Dave Clarke (21*) and in-form Lewis Holley (21*) saw Aber home to their target with no further alarms.
