ABERGAVNENNY made a disastrous start against Chepstow in a match which was always running away from them.

Winning the toss, Aber decided to play to their strengths by batting first. Big mistake! They found themselves in deep trouble at 14-4 with Andrew Jones, Will Glenn, Lewis Holley and Dan Cooke all out cheaply.

A mini-revival began with Greg Fury and Morgan Bevans (10), however this came to an end when Bevans was out with the score on 67.

Fury (103) proved a dominant force, and claimed his first century of the Summer. Abergavenny limped their way to 162 all out. The other notable contribution came from skipper Geraint Leach (28).

Chepstow lost their opener with the score on 11 but they consolidated and at 101 for two they were always in the driving seat. Despite losing wickets at reasonable intervals, Chepstow passed their target with five overs to spare, winning by three wickets.

The best of the Abergavenny bowling attack was David Clarke (3-36), Geraint Leach (2-33) and Dylan Beaumont - Welsh (1-15).

Meanwhile in Barry, Abergavenny Second X1 continued their winning ways with a 37 run victory over Barry 2nd X1.

Batting first, Abergavenny 2nd X1 scored 201 all out, with runs for Gareth Powell (50), skipper Steve Brown (52), Gareth Burkitt (21) and Wicket Keeper Nathan Holley (41).

In reply, apart from Nuwan Jayasanka Perera (79), the Barry batsmen didn’t come to terms with the consistent Abergavenny bowlers - Ben Morris (2-24), Matthew Knight (2-31), Chai Sanapala (2-31), Tom Pipe (3-40) and Gareth Powell (1-13).

There were three more victims for wicketkeeper Nathan Holley as Barry were 164 all out.

The Abergavenny 3rd X1 are in unstoppable form at present. The Division 8 outfit decisively defeated Radyr 4th X1 who batted first and were all out for 128 in 34 overs.

Abergavenny 3rd X1 won by six wickets finishing on 131-4. They now sit 63 points clear at the top of the table.
