ABERGAVENNY Cricket Club goes back to 1834 and in its 182 years of history a number of ‘Firsts’ have taken place, but the achievement of Morgan Bevans last Saturday is probably one of the very best recorded.
Hailing from Tredegar but developing his talent at Abergavenny, the talented 13-year-old scored his maiden Senior Hundred in Abergavenny second X1’s South East Wales League Match at Avenue Road against local rivals Usk CC. He then topped this with another century for Wales Under 14s the next day
Avenue Road was opened in 1896 and it is fitting that in its 120th year of its existence it waswitness to such an amazing achievement.
There is a certain synergy with events that took place on May 31, 1997, when a 15-year-old Mark Wallace, who has subsequently enjoyed a record breaking career in County Cricket with Glamorgan, scored his maiden second X1 Century against Brockhampton in the Three Counties League and followed it the next day with a maiden first X1 century against Sudbrook.
Who knows where Morgan’s talent will take him but for now he has earned deserved renown as the youngest senior team Centurion in the history of Abergavenny CC.
