Abergavenny CC held their 182nd Annual General Meeting at the clubhouse on Avenue Road.
It was well attended and chaired jointly by President JB Shackleton and Chairman Stephen Denning. The meeting stood in a minute’s silence to honour deceased members.
The Treasurer Mr Nick Kinman presented his audited accounts and indicated a small profit as opposed to a slight operating loss last year.
He reinforced the costs of running the Cricket Club and the importance of fund raising, sponsorship and membership involvement in club activities; he thanked the outgoing Treasurer Mr Richard Bradley and commended his report to the meeting.
The President reported on a difficult season, but praised the endeavours of the three Captains who managed to select sides each week and never had to resort to cancelling a fixture.
Both the First X1 and 2nd X1 were relegated, however the 2nd X1 retained their status due to a technicality. He indicated that the outlook for the coming year was more encouraging, and the signing of a Coach/Professional in Adam Harrison was a positive move for 2017.
Brian paid tribute to Stephen Denning and his committee, naming Kevin Schofield, Mike Bruton, Nick and Dawn Kinman, as well as the Ground Committee and the Ladies Committee.
The Chairman in his report, commented that he had now completed a three year stint and had addressed numerous challenges in that time. He was delighted that the Ground which always looks superb and more importantly plays well, was once again being used by Wales Minor Counties. He was buoyed by the level of enthusiasm displayed at the Presentation night and thanked the People who have come together to make Friday Nights Youth section so enjoyable, naming Geoff Shackleton and Huw Bowden as two of the key drivers. He also applauded all the teams stating they had shown enthusiasm, dignity and were well led and were instrumental in the high morale within the club
The three Senior Captains reported on the 2016 Season as well as the Junior Section Leader. The theme throughout the reports was the development of the youngsters within the club which can only be a good thing for the future.
A number of significant performances were highlighted. The need for balance between experience and youth was also strongly reinforced. Geoff Shackleton indicated that 23 youngsters had been put forward for Gwent Training for 2017.
