Tongwynlais RFC - 12
Crickhowell RFC - 57
CRICKHOWELL have made a storming start to the season, chalking up two comprehensive victories, scoring over 100 points and conceeding just 18.
It was just the start coaches Mark Withey and Alan Taylor wanted and their players responded in kind.
Following their 50 point marathon against Tref-y-Clawd, Crick travelled to Tongwynlais on Saturday and despite unavailability and injury forcing the visitors to make seven changes, the Parc Broyd outfit still served up a dominant 57 points against the home side who ended the game completely demoralised.
The Crick pack outplayed their heavier opponents in every aspect of the game. Ed Jones at hooker took four strikes off the head. James Webb and John Bennett dominated the line-out and combined with the mauling, rucking and driving of the pack as a whole the result was never going to be in doubt.
Directed by fly half Mark Withey, the backs came into their own to and Crickhowell's pace at ruck and maul and accurate passing and offloads, proved a very tough proposition.
Tongwynlais tried to cope the best they could and were gifted, via Crickhowell handling errors, two tries of their own, but the Crick backs were rampant and tries can fast and furious from Darryl Reynolds (3), Chris Reynolds (2), Ed Jones, and Matt Price.
Try of the match came when Price, supported all his forwards, drove at the opposition 22 metre line. Going to ground he fed quick ball to Matt Snead, who in turn fed Joe Powell, who out flanked the defence to squeeze in at the corner.
Mark Withey kicked two penalty goals and converted six of the tries.
All in all it was an excellent all round performance by the Crickhowell side who enjoy a rest next week when club player Ioan Lilley marries his fiancee Kate.
Everyone at the club wishes them well.
