SIX members of Crickhowell Bowls Club will be attempting to set a new Guinness World Record on Saturday.

The bowlers will be bowling for a marathon 12 hours from 8am to 8pm on a format approved by the Guinness Book of Records, and if successful, they will become the first sporting entry for bowls in that record book.

The event is part of a series of events by Crickhowell to raise funds for the maintenance of the bowling green and clubhouse.

The club have appreciated the support of Powys County Council for many years but now that this has ceased the club are looking at innovative ways of raising finance to keep their facilities at the high level they currently enjoy and at the level required to continue their successful involvement in the Monmouthshire and East Monmouthshire leagues.

Crickhowell have received support for this event from Drakes Pride bowls manufacturers and Caerleon Sports outfitters and are appreciative to them for their involvement.

Members of the public are encouraged to come along at any time during the day to witness and be part of the world record breaking occasion. Food and soft drinks will be available throughout the day. Weather permitting, Crickhowell hope to celebrate their achievement with a barbecue in the evening.
