OWING to a late injury to Chris Carver, Abergavenny Squash Club’s ‘E’ team went to play Monmouth ‘D’ with only four players and lost 5-0.
As ever, the team tried very hard, but were outclassed. The team remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

The ‘D’ team gained some consolation for the ‘E’ team’s defeat, winning 4-1 against the other Monmouth team in the league. Captain Lee Nightingall lost his grudge match against an opponent he has often played, but the remainder of the team all came through relatively comfortably, with Graham Wallis winning in the fifth set on his return to the side. A word must be said for both Chris Owen and Dean Jackson-Johns, both of whom have returned to winning ways after a rocky start to the season. The team remain in sixth place.

The ‘C’ team came back down to earth with a bump, losing a close match to promotion rivals Newport ‘G’ by three matches to two. Chris Phelps won easily, and Matthew Thomas played remarkably well to pull back from 2-0 down to win 3-2, but elsewhere the team struggled. The team are still top of the league, but their rivals have games in hand, and could overtake them.

On the same night, the ‘B’ team won a close match away from home against Cowbridge ‘A’ by three matches to two. Mike Logan, Gary Lawrence, and Gareth Hughes-Jones all won well, but the Lawrence brothers both lost. However, special mention must be made of Ellis Lawrence, who was returning early from a debilitating minor operation that clearly effected his stamina, losing 3-2. having been 2-0 ahead. It was a worthy effort! The team drop into third place, but promotion still beckons!

The ‘A’ team had a good 4-1 victory over Rhiwbina ‘B’, with the top four players all winning. Captain Chris Hill won his first match of the spring season, coming through a tough match 3-2. The team are now in mid-table in fourth place, having won their last four matches.
