Nearly 100 participants will compete in this year’s Y Fenni Triathlon held on Sunday, May 8.

Formerly known as the Blaenavon Triathlon, the Y Fenni is the longest running consecutive Triathlon in the UK, and is now in its 33rd year.

This year’s event is a 800m pool swim, followed by a tough 32 mile bike ride, which will include the tumble climb, before heading out to Beaufort, and a very cheeky climb over Llangynidr moors with a fast descent, eventually ending up on a fast, flat homeward bound trip on the Brecon Road towards Crickhowell, and then to the finale at Abergavenny, which will involve running 9.3 miles, mainly around off road paths on the Sugar Loaf mountain.

Y Fenni Triathlon Club is also celebrating their third anniversary and is part of the Welsh Triathlon Association.

They have over 40 members at various levels, and pride themselves on welcoming new members whatever their ability.

Training takes place at Abergavenny Leisure Centre every first and third Sunday of the month.

Club Secretary Mike Hill is a fully qualified instructor and can be contacted on 07785 702250 or via email on [email protected].
