EARLIER this month karate practitioners from all over Wales travelled to Nottingham for a Seminar instructed by Head of JKS England and Wales, Alan Campbell, Sensei 7th Dan.

The Seminar lasted two hours and covered all aspects of karate-do from Kihon (fundamentals) to Kumite and Kata (fighting and forms).

With well over 100 students in attendance it was a fantastic two hours. After the session, everyone was instructed that the Dan gradings would start in five minutes. One of these candidates was JKS Gilwern Karate Club’s very own Rob Clarke.

Instructor Matt Stockham, 5th Dan, explained, “Rob started his training four years ago when the club first opened its doors. He has been one of the most dedicated students and has worked his way through the gradings on his karate journey.”

Clarke underwent his exam in front of four of England’s top instructors and was awarded a Pass Shodan (1st Dan).

Stockham added, “The whole club at Gilwern and all JKS Wales Students and instructors are incredibly proud of what Rob has achieved. Well done!

“It proves Karate is for everyone no matter their age. Rob started his training in his 40s and really loves the club and atmosphere. I would encourage everyone to take a step through the dojo door and have a look.”
