Blaenavon Blues - 3
AC Pontymister - 3
THE Blues started brightly against Ponty and after ten minutes, young Jake Bull picked up the ball just inside the visitor's penalty area and beat the keeper with a cool finish.
In the very next attack Bull took on and beat the Pontymister full back before crossing for Matt Burns, his shot appeared to be going wide but Bull deflected it past the keeper to put the Blues 2-0 up.
On twenty five minutes Darryl Brenton found skipper Mike Waite with a good ball, Waite turned and fired narrowly wide.
On thirty minutes Pontymister's Chris Woods scored with a powerful header from a corner kick.
Almost immediately Lee Jones in the Blues goal made a great save, but could do nothing to stop Thomas Pratt equalising with a magnificent header.
With half time approaching Blues defence was caught flatfooted by a long ball out of defence and Woods put his side ahead at the break.
An uninspiring second half came to life when substitute Grant Evans broke through the Pontymister defence, rounded the keeper but saw his effort scrambled off the line.
Player manager Lee Wathen kept his side in the game when he cleared off the line with Jones beaten. With time running out Wathen's free kick was expertly headed home by Matt Burns to square the game at three goals each.
Blues need to stop leaking goals, then they should be able to pick up some much needed points.
This Saturday the Blues travel to face Fleur de Lys in the second round of the league cup. The following weekend they travel West to Brynaman to face Bryn Rovers in the third round of the FAW Trophy.
