CRICKHOWELL Netball Club has celebrated its very first competitive league competition.
The club competed in the recent SWENA adult league held weekly in Cwmbran.
And with this being the team's very first year the women were automatically placed in the third division. Half way through the season the team found they were sitting on top of the league which made the games very competitive and hard to sustain.
The second stage of the season proved even more important for team to win as many games as possible to remain at the top - however they did do enough to eventually go on to win the league and gained automatic promotion to Division Two.
The new league will be a very challenging and highly competitive season for all concerned and the club is very proud of its recent achievement, which has been down to the dedication from the players, committee members and coaches.
The club also is celebrating that their coach Natalie Davies has been selected to coach the elite players from Powys Netball within the Powys Elite Performance Hub, which is a fantastic opportunity for her to continue to develop as a coach for Welsh Netball.
At such a young age this is a brilliant achievement for her. Young player Georgi Wood celebrated her first international cap for the U17s team for Wales, while other players were added to the Powys Elite Hub.
Recent fun events saw the girls from the club taking part in recent Jubilee events held in Crickhowell. Despite the odds being stacked against them they proved to be a strong team once again and won the tug of war competition.
The following week saw the club hold a very successful quiz evening held at the Dragon Inn Crickhowell which raised much needed funds – during the evening a very generous sponsor came forward to assist the club with their new and exciting junior U15 team. And as a result the club are proud to announce that they are fielding a new U15 team who will be competing in the SWENA Junior league sponsored by a dog named 'Tess'.
The following weekend, against massive odds the Cclub was brave enough to take on the best of Wales and took part in the Senior Club Championships held over two days in Carmarthen.
The local women were up against the premier clubs from all over South Wales and the team was rightly very proud of its effort and each player gained valuable experience from this tough event which will give them a good ground on what level to expect by playing in division two in September.
The success of the club which saw it gaining the runners up award in the Club Of The Year competition in Powys led the team being approached by the Girl Guides Association and Powys Sports to field a Netball Coaching Course held in Builth Wells Show Ground as part of the scout movement's annual Jamboree event.
Anyone interested in joining the club can contact the club via Facebook or attend a free first session at Crickhowell High School every Monday between 7pm and 9pm.
The team are concluding their season this year with an award ceremony at the Dragon Inn in Crickhowell, where family and friends will celebrate a tremendous first season.
The club would like to extend their thanks to Owen Sports in Brecon and Ashley Nield from the Dragon Inn for their continued support.
