DUE to inclement weather only Abergavenny’s MBA game against Brynmawr at Avenue Road survived the fixture list.

Abergavenny won on three of the four rinks to win by 92 shots to 66, gaining 12 league points in the process.

Matthew Vale’s rink established an 11 shot lead by the eleventh end. This lead was reduced, by the Brynmawr rink, to four shots over the next five ends. The Abergavenny rink then regained control of the game in the final quarter to score ten shots, conceding only one, to win by 28 shots to 15. Anthony Moriarty’s rink held a seven shot lead after six ends. They continued to build on this early lead, allowing the Brynmawr rink to score on a total of six ends only, enabling the Abergavenny rink to win comfortably by 20 shots to nine.

The rink of John Beaton built a nine shot lead over the first eight ends. The Brynmawr rink then reduced their deficit over the third quarter of the game until scores were level after 17 ends. The Abergavenny rink then outscored their opponents over the last four ends to secure victory by 23 shots to 18. Unfortunately the rink of Jack Vale was unable to make it a clean sweep of all four rinks for the home club. It was a close game with each rink gaining the upper hand at different times in the game. However, the Brynmawr rink managed to score seven shots, without reply, over the final three ends to win the game by 24 shots to 21.

This week Abergavenny Ladies have a league fixture against Panteg House. This will be followed by a mixed team friendly against Chepstow. On Saturday the MBA team visit Croesyceiliog and the GBL team host local rivals Bailey Park for a league game.
