THE wet weather could not dampen the spirits of the large number of members who turned out for the Avenue Road Bowls Club Open Day last Saturday.

Sporting their new club shirts sponsored by The Auberge Bar and Restaurant, the members were addressed by Chairman John Whomersley who outlined the exciting news about the Community Chest Grant and the sponsorship of two new sets of bowls by Estate Agent Christie Residential.

All the new equipment was on display in the clubhouse and will greatly add to the ability of the club to provide the very best for existing and new members.

The club also boasts 10 qualified First Aiders and six Intermediate level bowls Coaches who will be guided by Head Coach Sian Phillips. He gave a vote of thanks to club member Maurice Padfield who was responsible for making the Community Chest grant application and negotiating the sponsorship agreements with the two sponsors.

It is hoped that the green will be playable during the week allowing the two Taster Sessions for would be new bowlers to take place on Friday, April 20 at 4.30pm and Saturday, April 21 at 2.30pm. Anyone interested, is welcome to attend. It is requested that you wear flat soled trainer type shoes and the club will provide any other equipment needed.

The taster sessions are free and club coaches will be on hand to give some help.
