FOR the third game in succession, Abergavenny Bowls Club’s ’s GBL team won on two of the three rinks, to win their game against Belle Vu by 79 shots to 40 and score ten league points.
The two victorious rinks were those of Fred Mutimer and Bill Belli. Fred Mutimer’s rink established an early lead and then never allowed their opponents to get into the game.
They continued to score on virtually every end throughout the game and eventually won by 35 shots to five.
Bill Belli’s rink had a difficult start and was trailing their opponents for the first eight ends of the game. From this point the Abergavenny rink seized the initiative and never allowed their opponents back into the game, going on to win by 29 shots to 12.
Unfortunately the rink of Jeff Gibbon could not complete a clean sweep for Abergavenny. Although they came back from being behind, their opponents managed to confirm their victory by scoring five shots on the final end to win by 23 shots to 15.
During the week the Abergavenny rink of Matthew Vale, Gethin Hill, John Marsh and Jack Vale played a semi-final game in the MBA rinks competition.
They played a rink from Machen for the right to appear in the MBA finals later this month. The Abergavenny rink was always in contention, matching the Machen rink for the majority of the game. However, their opponents managed to assert themselves over the final five ends to win by 21 shots to 16.
This weekend Abergavenny will play an MBA game against Abertillery at Avenue Road and also visit Caerleon in the GBL.
