IT was a bad week for Abergavenny Bowls Club which began with a defeat for the Ladies in their three rink Triples match at Pontymister Athletic.
They lost on all rinks, albeit narrowly on two of the three rinks. The men’s team played an EMBA game against Chepstow at Avenue Road. They could win on only one rink and therefore suffered a heavy defeat.
The rink of Kerry Clark suffered a defeat on the final end. Scores were level going into the last end but the Pontymister rink managed to score the shot that gave them victory. On Judi Belli’s rink it was a close game throughout. Again the opposition rink just managed to get their noses in front to win the game. The rink of Lesley Radley was never in contention and consequently was beaten comfortably.
In the EMBA game against Chepstow, the only successful rink for Abergavenny was that of Keith Richards. They managed to get their noses in front over the final few ends to record the only victory of the day for Abergavenny. Matthew Vale’s rink was involved in a close game with scores level going into the final end. Unfortunately, the Chepstow rink managed to score two shots to record a win. The rinks of Gethin Hill and John Vale were never in their games after the first five ends and this led to both rinks being defeated by a large margin.
This week Abergavenny Ladies play their first league game of the season at Caerleon and the men’s team play their first Carruthers Cup game at Belle Vue.
