Blaenavon Blues - 2

BLAENAVON Blues got the better of the badgers in Saturday's fierce and frantic local derby.

Govilon were the first to threaten and Blues keeper Lee Jones saved with his legs from Govilon danger man Dean Morgan.

On ten minutes Govilon were awarded a free kick in a dangerous position, Craig Norman wasted the chance, firing well over.

It was the Blues turn to attack and Marc Browning won possession in the middle of the park, his pass found Lee Penry who in turn found Matthew Burns in space, Burns hesitated and his shot was blocked.

Twenty minutes in Blues took the lead, when Craig Tanner's short corner put Craig Harris into the penalty box - his cross was put in from close range by Lloyd Jeffries.

Govilon came back into the game Richard Williams read a dangerous situation and cleared the danger, but in their next attack Govilon won a penalty.

Craig Norman stepped up and placed his penalty kick just inside the left hand post, Blues keeper Jones brilliantly dived to his left and saved it.

It was all Govilon now, Norman again fired way over from another free kick.

From a Govilon corner Colin Morgan failed to hit the target, his header flying wastefully wide.

Craig Tanner made a fine run up the right touchline, his cross was touched behind for a corner.

A foul on Harris gave Tanner a shot at goal, but he also was too high.

The next minute Tanner was back defending, making a tackle and giving away a corner.

From Jac Evans' excellent corner Colin Morgan headed over.

Govilon continued to have a lot of possession as the second half got underway, sub Ben Bannon had a good effort well saved by Blues keeper Jones.
