DUE to the arctic conditions at Blaenavon's recreation ground, Blaenavon RFC decided to swap their home game against Senghenydd to the more tropical climbs of Pontypool Park to ensure the game went ahead.

It was a gamble that paid off handsomely as Blaenavon recorded their biggest win of the season, running in eight tries to ensure maximum bonus points in a hard fought good running game.

Blaenavon started off well, with the in form Matthew Billings stealing the ball from the kick off, but it was Senghenydd who struck first with a penalty. The Blaenavon pack switched into overdrive and from a driving line-out they pushed the Senghenydd pack over their own line for a touchdown by hooker Peter Loader, 5-3.

From a poor clearance kick from Blaenavon the Senghenydd winger beat two tackles and scored a good try, 5-8 .

The Blaenavon pack started to turn up the heat and good performances by Jamie Noble and Matthew Billings Chris Jones and Chris Baldwin resulted in a well worked try for Callum Davis, Darren Pearce converted, 12-8.

The Senghenydd forwards looked like they were running out of steam as a good rampaging run from Jamie Noble linked with the three Blaenavon forwards Chris Jones Callum Davis and Chris Baldwin to put flying wing Gareth Jones over in the corner, 17-8.

From the restart Blaenavon started to infringe and two quick fire penalties in succession to from Senghenydd brought them back into contention,17-14.

Matthew Billings touched down for try number four to make it 22-14 to Blaenavon at half time.

Into the second half and a textbook kick to the corner and a superb chase by flying winger Matthew Powell saw him gather the ball and glide under the posts. Darren Pearce converted, 29-14.

The Senghenydd scrum half put over a long range kick to make it 29-17 but Senghenydd had no answer to flying flanker Chris Slogger Baldwin who crashed over for try number six.

Number eight Chris Jones' well deserved try gave Blaenavon an unassailable lead, 39-17.

Chris Baldwin bagged the final try to round off Blaenavon's performance of the season and a master class in line-out techniques

This Saturday Blaenavon have a hard task ahead of them next week, as they travel to near Neighbours Garndiffaith RFC where they will try and overturn the 20-18 lose they suffered earlier in the season.
