Recognise this dude? Back in 2014 not many people outside the world of cycling did. He was just another professional cyclist competing in Abergavenny’s Festival of Cycling.

Today he’s a household name who’s just won the Tour de France and put Wales on the worldwide cycling map.

It may not be the Col Du Tourmalet or the Mount Ventoux but no doubt Geraint Thomas has fond memories of pounding up the Hereford Road in preparation for the euphoric summits he’d scale in France four years later.

Anyhow it’s a nice little pic for posterity and a chance for the Chronicle to say on behalf of Abergavenny, “Well done” to the boy from the ‘diff.
