GLANGRWYNEY clinched the Marches League Division Four title in style with an emphatic win over Bartestree Thirds.

This was the Glang's sixth victory on the bounce and one which propelled them to the top spot over Widemarsh, who only picked up 19 points to leave Glang worthy champions.

Glang again won a vital toss and inserted Bartestree. Opening bowlers Haydn Davies (0 for 12 off 10) and Richard James (0 for 17 off seven) once again bowled very economically with no luck.

It was Tom Miller (three for 13 off eight) who got the initial breakthrough before bowling a further two batsmen with pace, with Colin Griffiths (two for 19 off nine) getting a smart stumping courtesy of Tony Jones, leaving Bartestree in deep trouble at 54 for five off 31 overs.

Further wickets by Nick Jones (two for 100 off 16) aided by a neat catch by Richard James and Jones getting a run out left Bartestree on 106-8.

All credit to Bartestree who fielded three 15-year-olds and two 14-year-olds for batting out the overs on a variable wicket.

In reply, Glan openers Paul Daniel (20) and the prolific Mike Parker (69 not out) put on 83 before Daniel was caught at point.

Bob Howell (five not out) then helped Parker in reaching the target in the 22nd over to end a wonderful season for Glang and promotion to Division Three,

It's been a real team effort by Glang with every one of the 20 man squad playing their part. On a personal note batman Mike Parker got a superb 563 runs from just ten innings, averaging 70, with skipper Colin Griffiths picking up 28 wickets fron 129 overs - a personal best season for the ageing bowler.

For the Griffiths family it was a momentous weekend with son Huw helping Talgarth get promotion as champions to Division One. Huw bagged 28 wickets in the league and also picked up the 'man of the match' award in their Marches cup final defat at Eastnor against the Division One champions, where he bowled eight overs for just 19 runs and hit a swashbuckling 49 runs.

Glangrwyney CC would also like to express their many thanks to head groundsman Mike Rouse and staff for maintenance of the ground.
