Govilon - 3

Trethomas Bluebirds - 2

DUE to the bad weather, Govilon were playing at Pen-y-Pound for only the second time since November 23 when they registered a winning 3-2 scoreline against Pentwynmawr Athletic. They recorded the same score against Trethomas Bluebirds last Saturday.

However it was the visitors who opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a looping shot which deceived goalkeeper Parsons.

Govilon had to wait until the half hour when Jake Heckles rounded goalkeeper Gareth Williams to bring his side level.

Govilon broke through after 60 minutes when Colin Morgan hammered in a shot from the edge of the box which Williams could only parry and watch the ball trickle into the net.

It was Morgan who struck again ten minutes from time with a similar goal after being set up by Jake Heckles. This time Morgan gave Williams no chance with his bullet-like effort flying into the net.

Trethomas pulled back a goal late on, but Govilon were always in control of their third placed rivals. On Saturday Govilon travel to Abertillery Excelsiors (3.00pm kick-off.)

Elsewhere in the Gwent County League, Mardy AFC returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Lucas Cwmbran. Goals from Dan Marfell and Matthew Heritage were enough to secure the win. A top performance from goalkeeper Nathan Holley helped bag the three points.
