ABERGAVENNY ‘E’ team lost a very close match to the league leaders by three matches to two against Monmouth ‘C’. The highlight of the tie was the match involving Mark Nicholls, which came down to the last point of the match that Nicholls managed to win.

Both players were applauded from the court. Elsewhere, Lee Nightingall had an easy victory, but overall the competition was too strong, and the team remain in third place.

The ‘C’ team played their final match of the league season against the champions Monmouth ‘B’ and, not surprisingly, lost 4-1. Only Matthew Thomas was able to win his match. The team finish in third place, which was a fair reflection on their season.

The ‘B’ team turned in a spirited performance against Blaenavon/Pontypool, but still lost by three matches to two. Both Gary Lawrence, who was returning from illness, and Ed Leakey, who was playing on a dodgy knee, managed to win their matches. The team remain bottom of the table.

The ‘A’ team returned from Newport, having achieved a significant victory over their relegation rivals. As a result, they lifted themselves above their opponents into sixth place, and out of the relegation zone. This is even more impressive, when considering the strength of the side, which had Chris Hill’s father Dai, in the side! However, such is the team spirit, they managed to prevail. With three matches to go, it is now very possible that this team will remain in the top tier.
