Even more tense than the first 2013 Ashes Test was this year's annual 30/30 match between King Henry V111 School X1 and KHS Former Pupils Association which was decided on the penultimate ball.

On a sunny Avenue Road cricket pitch, the FPA were put in to bat and despite some keen bowling and strong fielding from the school eleven, still managed a more than respectable total of 207-5.

Gareth Williams opened for the old boys and finished on 52, being well supported by Ryan Williams who made 48. John Viveash, captain of the FPA, carried his bat to make 43.

The School 11 was captained by Jack Groves who opened the batting with Lewis Holley who batted well but was dropped twice and bowled out at 74, while Groves went out to a spectacular catch for 71.

There was some brilliant fielding and very tight bowling from all the FPA bowlers, with some outstanding slow left-hand spin from Joe Lane and right-hand spin from Gareth Williams. The School came out victorious at 211-7.

It was the first time that John Viveash had captained the FPA, and also the first time that the cup had been won by the school in nine years. The irony of it was that the school captain that day nine years ago was - John Viveash!

Although there were not many spectators, those who attended were kept on the edge of their seats until the very last ball of a thrilling match.

The organisers would like to thank Abergavenny Cricket Club for the loan of the ground and other facilities, Margaret Dodd who was in charge of the catering and Huw Jenkins who once again masterminded the fixture.

The teams produced a tight, thrilling match that will go down in the annals of KHS and KHS FPA sporting history.
