Abergavenny RFC - 8
Newport HSOB - 0
ABERGAVENNY returned from the Christmas break and entertained Newport High school old boys at Bailey Park on a wet gloomy day.
Abergavenny welcomed back Captain Rhodri Webster at outside half and Paul Cornock at number eight which gave the side a more balanced look about it.
The first half started with the away side attacking Aber's line and only resolute defence for a ten minute period kept the home side's line intact.
Abergavenny settled down and began put some phases together and exert some pressure on the Newport line and only desperate defence and a few basic errors prevented the home side from scoring leaving the game scoreless at half time.
Abergavenny started the second half with much more purpose with fullback Will Williams testing the away sides' defence on numerous occasions. Aber's pressure was eventually rewarded with a penalty converted by Lewis Evans to give the home side a slender lead. The home side's scrum was now very dominant and enabled Aber to keep the old boys pinned down in their 22. Eventually Aber's pressure paid off when flanker Josh Davies crashed over to score an unconverted try to seal a very important home victory 8-0.
On Saturday the club is away to Pill Harriers. All supporters are very welcome.
