AFTER a week’s break owing to the weather, Abergavenny ‘E’ played against a Monmouth ‘E’ side at the bottom of the table, and managed to obtain a hard-fought victory by three matches to two.

Captain Tony Davies had his best match of the season thus far, winning in five sets, and the match was decided by the evergreen Jiwan Gahunia, who controlled his game as usual and won 3-1. As a result, the team move above their opponent into seventh place.

On the following night, the ‘B’ team travelled a long way to Llanelli, and lost a tough match by 3-2.

Both Ed Leakey and Ellis Lawrence had good victories, but the other players were well beaten, with only one further point being gained. However, the team remain in second place, and are still on course for promotion to the top tier.

The ‘D’ team entertained a tough Cwmbran ‘A’ side just above it in the league, and managed to deliver a 3-2 victory.

This could well have been more, but Peter Steed unfortunately aggravated an old injury and had to retire in the third set at one all. As a result, the team move into second place and into a promotion spot. Can they hang on?

The ‘C’ team entertained the lesser Caldicot side, and won comfortably by four matches to one. Mike Logan, Gary Lawrence, and Russel Young had comfortable victories, and Mitchell Lawrence won a bad-tempered match 3-2. The side move back into second place, but getting promotion is looking difficult!

Finally, the ‘A’ team returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 5-0 victory against its old rival, Newport.

Only two points were dropped in the entire match, and the team consolidated its position in fifth place.
