Presteigne - 9
Abergavenny - 0
ABERGAVENNY'S Ladies XI ventured north this week to face unknown strength of Presteigne. So far, this has been a challenging season for the blue and gold ladies. With only a draw in the bag, skipper Charlie-Ann Haydock was keen for a win this week.
With the Ladies sporting their most stylish moustaches in support of Movember, they boarded the bus, destination Llandrindod Wells.
From the starting whistle, Abergavenny played a heavily defensive game with Presteigne scoring their first goal in just under ten minutes.
The home side followed this with another four goals in the first half and the Abergavenny Ladies knew they were in for a particularly tough match, especially with two dominant Presteigne players that were able to skirt around the defensive line and put the balls on the back board.
In the second half Abergavenny came back onto the pitch, moustaches in check, with determination to scrape a goal.
Forward Ellie Roberts was able to break through the Presteigne wall, only narrowly missing a goal. Unfortunately Prestiegne were able to dominate the Abegavenny D and were awarded several short corners for foot faults to which they successfully converted into goals.
Despite the efforts from Abergavenny, the strength of Presteigne Ladies snatched the glory from the blue and gold hands with a final score of 9-0.
It was a particularly tough match but the team effort was second to none, Abergavenny made themselves a little more time in midfield and this showed thanks to a combined efforts from Sharon Phillips and Kate Ponsford, switching the ball between midfields Kirstie Cashmore and Haydock.
However despite the loss the blue and gold Ladies spirits remained high and they all had a good laugh after the match at their dishevelled moustaches!
