Newport Corries - 1

Abergavenny Town - 4

ABERGAVENNY Town's unbeaten run rages on after a tough test away to top four side Newport Corries.

Realising that they needed a win to keep them in the title race, Newport where not shy to put their foot in early on as they tried to stamp there authority on the game.

Abergavenny kept their nerve but went a goal down after 15 minutes, but within five minutes they were back on level terms when Dean Morgan slotted home from close range after a mix up between the defender and keeper.

Abergavenny started to take control of the game and quick goals from Craig Norman and Dean Morgan put them 3-1 up.

Dean Morgan missed a penalty and at the other end Tom Indge made a tremendous save to keep a Newport penalty out.

The Corries had a player sent off for an elbow on Aaron Norman which resulted in cut above his eye. Daniel Jenkins extended Abergavenny's lead with a well taken goal just before half time to leave the score 4-1.

In the second half the Town withstood everything Newport Corries threw at them. It was great to see the return of James Hughes after six weeks out with injury, and also the return of Daniel Marfell .

Town's performance showed great character and determination with Aber proving that they are able to tough it out if needs be.

The Town, who have only dropped two points from their first 11 games, compete in the last 32 of the FAW Trophy this Saturday - playing against Ton & Gelli BC on Ton Pentre's ground.

This will be a big test for the Aber lads, as they pit themselves against a very good side, with a place in the last 16 awaiting the winner.
