GOLFING prodigy Adelaide 'Addie' Francis' will be swinging her way to the States this Summer to represent Britain in the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships held in San Diego.

Although the Monmouthshire Golf Club member is only eight-years-old, she has been playing since she was three and can already boast an impressive pedigree when it comes to winning tournaments.

When the putting dynamo was six she won the Welsh Mini Masters held at the Celtic Manor and has already played at many courses throughout Britain - including St Andrews.

Formerly coached by James Morgan at Alice Springs Golf Club, Addie now plays at the Monmouthshire where she receives coaching from Anthony Chaloner.

During the Easter holidays, Addie played on the Thornbury Severn 18 hole Par three Course, where Juniors of all age groups took part in the Callaway Junior (Great Britain) Championships. In difficult and windy conditions, Addie won her age group with a score of Gross 80 and has now been chosen to represent her age group (7 - 8) as part of the British team who will travel to the largest international golfing event of its kind in the world.

Competitors from over 50 countries will be swinging into action when the Callaway 2013 World Championships in Torrey Pines, San Diego, tees off this July, and Addie, alongside England's Rachel Gouley will be the only other girl in her age group to represent Britain.

The Llanvair Kilgeddin school pupil who was recently featured in the Abergavenny Chronicle as one of only three children in Monmouthshire to receive a Gold Award at Kunmon maths, will be competing against the top two youngsters in her age category from countries across the globe, including Australia, Japan, and China.

Addie will be following in the footsteps of such illustrious golfing greats as Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Phil Mikleson, who have all played at Callaway.

The sporting mad youngster who also plays football for the Mardy Tigers U10s and hockey for the Gwent County mixed team is relishing the Callaway challenge and remains determined to do her country, club, school, family and friends proud.

Addie's mum, Tracy Francis, told the Chronicle, "Both Tom (Addie's father) and I are thrilled to bits and really looking forward to accompanying Addie to America in the Summer.

"Addie has enjoyed fantastic opportunities through golf and she has met so many lovely individuals at various golf clubs throughout Britain. Golf has even took her as far afield as Marbella in Spain where she received coaching last Winter and intends to return to come late May."

Proud mum Tracy said, "Although she's still so young it seems that Addie has been golfing for such a long time because she started at Alice Springs when she was just three and has received so much help from so many talented people since then.

"Her coach at Alice Springs, James Morgan was great, as was junior organiser Ken Jones and boys captain Jamie Kennard, who spent a lot of time with Addie on the course and driving range.

"It was James who took Addie to the Welsh Mini Masters and as a consequence of attending that event we were given excellent advice from Zoe Thacker and Hannah Fitzpatrick from the Golf Union of Wales on the way forward with Addie. We were also introduced to Janet cavacutti the Women's County Junior Organiser who arranged further coaching through Golf Development Wales."

The talented golfer's mother added, "For the past two years, Addie has been having extra coaching with Anthony Chaloner at Monmouthshire golf club and the junior organiser Irene Dodd has been fantastic with Addie. I would also like to thank Llanvair Kilgeddin Head Teacher, Mrs Evans, for all her support with Addie."

The Callaway Junior World Golf Championship will be held on July 16-19.
