A group of community members who are passionate about combat sports have come together to put on three events to promote and demonstrate boxing and martial arts, whilst raising money for Jacob’s Charity and Children with Cancer.
The first event, “Fighters - Past & Present” will be held on October 11, 7.30pm at Abergavenny’s Borough Theatre,
The evening will give the audience an opportunity to hear from three local fighters in the shape of Kieran Gething, Mason Jones and Maddison Davies.
The three current fighters will be joined on stage by three ‘past’ fighters, in the form of Terry Hillman, Keith Davies and Malcolm Hamer. The three well-known locals will walk the audience through the history of boxing in Abergavenny. Also on display will be a demonstration from local martial arts club Verve Kickboxing.
The two further events will take place in the Market Hall over the weekend of November 3 and 4. They will consist of an amateur boxing evening, featuring local boxers and an open martial arts competition with over 100 categories.
Tickets are still available for all events from the Theatre Box Office or online at [email protected]" TARGET="_blank">[email protected].
Meet The Fighters
"I’m Maddison Davies, 19, from Abergavenny, South Wales, and I’ve been training and fighting in martial arts since the age of four. I hold four different black belts and was the youngest ever Team Wales Taekwondo member.
My career highs so far being a Commonwealth Games Bronze and a Olympic Qualifier Bronze. I hold many regional and national titles, and am a former GB National Team Member.
Within the next couple years, I hope to make it to the Olympics Games win Gold, to further build my reputation and to continue to defy the stereotypes."
"I’m Mason Jones, 23 and from Blaenavon, South Wales, and I’ve been training 16 years. My background is initially in Kickboxing and am a former National Judo Team Member.
I also hold an undefeated professional boxing record. However, I have found my drive for success centred towards Mixed Martial Arts.
I’m contracted to the biggest European MMA Organisation, Cage Warriors, to which my record is now 5-0, and televised on BT Sport.
My ambition is to continue my undefeated record and to progress my career to the highest world stage, UFC."
"My name is Kieran Gething and I have been boxing since I was 12-years-old. I have won many Welsh Titles and had the privilege of captaining Wales for two years before turning professional. My current record stands at 6-1-1, but due to the highs and lows of boxing, I’ve had three title opportunities that have all fallen through. This has made me even hungrier to finish this year on a high and I’m looking forward to my upcoming title fight for the Welsh Welterweight belt later this month."
