Parliament has now risen for the summer recess, which means I'll be spending even more time back here in Monmouthshire meeting residents, visiting businesses and hearing directly about the issues that matter most to you.

Before recess began, Andy Burnham MP became our new Prime Minister. I'm pleased that he has made tackling the cost of living his number one priority and, in his first few days, has already started announcing policies to help households and businesses.

I recently had the opportunity to raise Monmouthshire's priorities with the Prime Minister and asked what more can be done to make our county an even better place to live.

I look forward to working with him to clean up pollution in our rivers, revive our high streets, and combat violence against women and girls.

No matter what happens in Westminster, my priority will always be delivering for Monmouthshire.

An example of that is my work to refurbish Inglis Bridge in Monmouth, where I was delighted to recently join residents and students from Osbaston Primary School to celebrate the completion of the bridge’s refurbishment.

The closure of the bridge had a huge impact on the local community. From the day I was elected, I made repairing the bridge one of my top priorities.

I repeatedly raised the issue in Parliament, met with the Defence Minister and consistently lobbied the Ministry of Defence to secure the £1 million needed for the repairs.Securing the funding was a huge step forward, but there was still plenty of work to do.

I continued working closely with everyone involved in the project, bringing them together for regular meetings ensure actions and deadlines were being hit.While there are still a few minor works to complete before everything is fully finished, these should only take a couple of weeks.

Thank you to everyone who played a part in getting this bridge open. Including MCC and local councillors, this was a real team effort, and it's fantastic that, after nearly two years of the community campaigning, Monmouth finally has its bridge back.

On the topic of team work, while out door-knocking recently, a resident mentioned that rubbish in a nearby park and the surrounding alleyways was building up.

So I got together with the fantastic Keep Abergavenny Tidy group and Cllr Su McConnel to help clean it up.

Litter picking groups like Keep Abergavenny Tidy do an incredible job at looking after our communities, and I'm looking forward to getting involved in more community clean-ups over the coming months.
