YOUTH politics could help to shape the future of Abergavenny, town councillors heard.
They are embracing plans to establish a younger version of themselves in the shape of an Abergavenny Youth Council.
No negative comments were expressed as the matter was considered at this month’s meeting of councillors in the Town Hall.
Councillor Sheila Woodhouse rallied support for a meeting next month to explore the idea of making the Youth Council a reality.
Youth clubs, police, parents and would-be junior politicians were given a open invite to attend the gathering at the Town Hall on November 26 at 5.30pm.
It was hoped the get-together would establish whether the desire for such a forum was sufficient to take the matter further.
Mrs Woodhouse said the mood for such a body was ‘very keen and very eager.’
Councillor Douglas Edwards was all for the town having its own Youth Council.
“Anything we can do to further interest young people in public affairs is most welcome. We should support this as much as we can. Let’s go down this avenue and help set up a Youth Council,” he enthused.
Councillor Woodhouse said a ‘broad range’ of youngsters would be encouraged to join such an enterprise.
