A SPOKESMAN for a low-cost food retailer has confirmed that construction work to build Abergavenny's new Aldi store will begin in January. The international food-giant originally obtained planning permission to convert the site of the former Renault garage three years ago but mothballed the scheme after demolishing and securing the site at the outset of the economic downturn. The current permission allows the company to delay starting the building project until 2013 at which time the scheme would have to be represented to Monmouthshire planners.
