Mountain rescuers were called out on Tuesday night after a woman and two children became lost on the Blorenge mountain above Abergavenny.
The woman, who comes from Monmouthshire, went for a walk on the mountain with two 10-year-olds at 5.30pm but became disorientated when darkness fell.
She called Gwent Police who asked Abergavenny-based Longtown Mountain Rescue Team to help search.
The police helicopter used searchlights to pinpoint the walkers location and rescuers brought the trio to safety at about midnight.
They were cold, hungry and tired but otherwise unharmed.
Len Harbottle, from Longtown MRT said, “The nights are starting to draw in so remember to carry a torch, map and compass if you set out for an afternoon or evening walk in the hills.
“It was great teamwork between MRT and the police and we’re all happy that they were found safe and unharmed.”
This was the second call out for the team in two nights in what has been a busy summer for mountain rescue teams across South Wales.
